The American Inventor
The television program American inventor may be off the air by the time you read this, but the following tips will still apply to similar shows or contests or perhaps any demonstration of your invention.
1. Be succinct. You only get a couple minutes to present your idea, so practice in font of a mirror and time yourself.
2. Anticipate questions. Show your invention to friends and family and write down any questions they ask. Prepare answers to these, since the judges may ask the same.
3. Show more than explain. I watched a man with a new form of construction blocks lose out because he was talking about the idea. Had he started building with the blocks, and then said, “That’s is how we’ll soon be building homes,” it would have been more impressive.
